Welcome to Providence Lodge

Fishing

Providence Lodge is perfect for trout fishing on Lake Eucumbene. The Lodge is located right on the shores of Lake Eucumbene not far from the Eucumbene River. Lake Eucumbene is recognized as one of Australia's best trout fishing lakes.

Lake Eucumbene was finished in 1958 and was Australia's largest man-made lake. It holds up to 9 times the volume of Sydney Harbour. This lake is undoubtedly one of the best fisheries in the Australian Highlands holding rainbow trout and brown trout. It was the stage for the world fly fishing championships in January 2000. Whether you prefer fly-fishing, Spinning, trolling, or bait fishing, everyone should have no problem catching a trout in Lake Eucumbene.

Some of the more popular areas for fishing are Providence Portal and Providence Flats, Middlingbank, Frying Pan, Seven Gates, and Yens Cove. Streams feeding Lake Eucumbene are the Eucumbene River, Andys Creek, Little Plain Creek, James Creek, Swamp Creek, Little Swamp Creek, Hughes Creek, Lucas Creek and Gang Gang Creek.

Providence Portal is the scene of some great fishing in the weeks leading up to the close of the fishing season when trout are moving towards the river entrance for spawning.

16 major dams have been stocked with trout and together with numerous mountain rivers and streams the choice of "where to fish" can be a delightful dilemma.
